12. Giving the Bride ”Away”
This episode is all about a common ceremony moment that seems like it may be falling out of fashion… and that is the tradition of the bride being “given away” by her father to her new spouse. Giving away the bride is the moment at the wedding where the bride leaves the hands of her father or parents and joins her groom. There is typically a moment where the priest or officiant will ask: “who gives this woman to be married? This is a particular tradition that can and should be personalized by the happy couple, based on their familial relationships, beliefs, and values. Where talking lots of alternatives, and other forms of symbolism that may make this tradition sit a bit better with you.
